About the Oostendorper Watermill
Visit this beautiful double water wheel mill on the Buursebeek, whose history begins in 1548. Until shortly before 1600, just downstream near the Veddersbrug, there was a mill that was destroyed by acts of war. In 1633, Willem Ripperda tot Weldam received permission to build the Oostendorper mill on the current site. The mill has three bottom bearing wheels, two for the corn mill and one for the oil mill. In the early 20th century, the upper bearing wheel was broken away. The mill fell into disrepair from then on and had to be restored in 1930. In 1946, the mill largely disappeared due to high water in the gully and was not thoroughly restored until 1987. Since May 1988, the mill has been grinding and open to the public. It regularly grinds grain and beats oil.
