Landgoed Het Lankheet
The history of Het Lankheet estate dates back to 1188. The rich past has been given a new future.
Landgoed Het Lankheet is situated between two stream valleys with a central ridge as a watershed. The estate is characterised by extensive woods with scattered heathlands. We also see the old farm landscape with ash trees, hedgerows and coppice groves. To get an idea of the different types of terrain on the estate, here is a rough area breakdown: coniferous forest (260 hectares), deciduous forest (60 hectares), heath and fens (60 hectares). The estate's forests are known as Hoonesbos, Assinkbos and Lankheterbos. These forests contain many trees more than 150 years old.
The estate was bought in March 1895 by Gerrit Jan van Heek senior, co-founder of the firm van Heek & Co in Enschede. The estate and its properties are currently owned by NV Lankheet.
Waterpark Het Lankheet
Part of Landgoed Het Lankheet is the Waterpark. Here you can see various contemporary landscape projects in which water purification, energy generation, multifunctional climate forests, wood cultivation and art play an important role. This knowledge and experience park offers interesting and exciting activities for young and old. Hiking trails abound, there are guided tours, educational programmes, lectures and several times a year musical performances can be enjoyed in the small amphitheatre.
Excursion: Waterpark Het Lankheet
Every first Saturday morning of the month, there are public walks in the Waterpark. Expert guides are able to tell and explain all about the rich cultural history of this area, the ecological water purification system and about the partly restored water meadow system. A look at the special architectural boathouse and the timber farm are also part of the discovery tour.
Buurserpot
Shipping history plays a prominent role on Het Lankheet estate. From the 15th century to the first half of the 19th century, a small barge transported all kinds of cargo such as ‘poteerde’ (white clay), foodstuffs, brandy and textiles across the Buurserbeek. Since 2014, a replica of this historic flat-bottomed boat sails along part of this route again from April to October. Take a trip with the Buurserpot and listen to the anecdotes of the pot skippers while enjoying the beautiful nature around the stream. Book through info@vvvhaaksbergen.nl, www.vvvhaaksbergen.nl.
