Many days of hiking fun
With plenty of pleasant places to eat along the way and distances from 7 to 12 kilometers, this guide guarantees many days of hiking fun. All walks are clearly described and the beautiful photographs (also by Truus) make you want to get out and about immediately!
Route 12: Buurserzand and Steenhaarplassen (9 km)
In the Buurserzand you walk along heathlands, fens and small woods. Junipers grow in many places and you will find flowering plants such as the bell gentian, sundew and orchids. This is also a special area for birds and animals. During the walk you will pass the Bommelas. This is a small farm from 1840, of the type 'Los Hoes'. For a nice cup of coffee or tea, with apple pie of course, you can visit De Wakel. This information center of Natuurmonumenten is located in a characterful barn with a terrace.
Route 18: Witte Veen (7 km)
The route starts from Landgasthof de Haarmühle and goes through the Witte Veen. You walk via the authentic water mill (located on the Alstatter Aa) straight into nature. This former smuggling area along the German border was once part of a large bog area and has numerous highlights: the plank path through the bog forest, unusual plants such as the woolly grass and lavender heath and unique "inhabitants." With a bit of luck you will meet these Scottish Highlanders who just graze around wild here and you will hear frogs, birds and ducks everywhere. In short, there is so much to see that you will be short of eyes and ears. It is therefore quite understandable that Truus Wijnen has made this a fine walk.
